Forklift Parts in More Detail
There are hundreds of components which make up a lift truck. The forklifts major parts include the truck frame, the engine components, the tilt cylinders, the overhead guard and the wheels. In addition, a lift truck consists of different kinds of attachments. All the parts making up a forklift are of equal importance as they work together to make the operation of the machinery possible. The subsequent paragraphs describe some of the lift truck parts in detail.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the forklift truck's metal roof. It sits above the cab area and protects the machinery operator whilst he or she is sitting and driving. The overhead guard ensures that nothing falling from above onto the truck would damage the controls in the cab or injure the operator. The overhead guard is essential to the frame assembly on several units.
The Mast - Mounted either to the forklift frame or the front axle, the mast is the vertical lift truck part made of interlocking rails. The mast enables the forks to move upwards and down whilst providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails could either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are two ways the mast can be operated: chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor or hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders.
Forklift Carriage - the forks and different other types of attachments are mounted to the carriage. The carriage is connected to the mast directly to the hydraulic cylinder or it is attached by chains. To allow the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage can have either bushings or rollers to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - When the carriage is lifted to full height, there is a back rest made of metal which keeps a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either welded or bolted on to the carriage.
Lift Truck Attachments - There are many attachments that can be fixed directly to the lift truck's carriage. Forks are the most common type of attachment. Moreover, there are L-shaped members, rotators, rollers, roll clamps, pole handlers and so forth. These different attachments are handy for moving different types of loads.
